Special Education

Preschool special education is a specialized educational program designed to meet the unique needs of young children with disabilities or developmental delays. This early intervention is crucial in providing support to children aged three to five years before they enter formal kindergarten or elementary school. The goal of preschool special education is to address developmental challenges and to ensure that children with disabilities have the necessary foundation for future academic and social success.

Key features of preschool special education include:

  • Early Identification and Evaluation: The process often begins with the early identification of children who may have developmental delays or disabilities. Assessment tools are used to evaluate a child's strengths and challenges across various areas of development. If you have concerns about your child’s development or that they may require special education services, contact Tracey Wilson at 937-653-5214.
  • Individualized Education Plan (IEP): Similar to special education at later stages, preschool special education involves the creation of an Individualized Education Plan (IEP). The IEP outlines specific learning goals, accommodations, and support services tailored to the individual needs of the preschooler.

  • Inclusive Learning Environments: Preschool special education emphasizes inclusive learning environments where children with disabilities can interact with their typically developing peers. Inclusion promotes socialization, language development, and other important skills.

  • Specialized Instruction and Services: Preschool special education programs provide specialized instruction and services to address the unique needs of each child. This may involve adapted curriculum, assistive technology, speech therapy, occupational therapy, or other interventions based on the child's requirements.

  • Family Involvement: Family involvement is a crucial aspect of preschool special education. Parents or guardians are actively engaged in the educational process, collaborating with educators and professionals to support the child's development at home and in the community.

  • Transition Planning: As children in preschool special education approach the age of entering formal schooling, transition planning becomes essential. This involves preparing both the child and the family for the next educational setting and ensuring a smooth transition into kindergarten.

  • Legal Framework: Preschool special education is governed by legal frameworks, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) in the United States, which outlines the rights of children with disabilities and mandates the provision of early intervention services.

Preschool special education plays a critical role in giving children with disabilities a strong start in their educational journey, aiming to enhance their overall development and prepare them for success in later stages of education.

Kindergarten Readiness:

Preparing children for the transition to kindergarten is a significant part of our mission. We focus on developing essential skills such as language and literacy, social and emotional intelligence, and fine and gross motor skills. Our program ensures that each child is well-equipped to embrace the challenges and joys of the next educational milestone.
